Iranian Firm Produces Rapid Portable Heart Health Monitoring Device

TEHRAN (ANA)- A knowledge-based company in Iran used nanotechnology, photonics, biotechnology and artificial intelligence to design a smart and portable device for monitoring cardiovascular health that allows for early detection of heart attacks and blood clots in just 15 minutes and without the need to visit medical centers.

Accurate measurement of key heart health markers, portable design and easy use without the need to be present at medical centers, smart user interface for displaying results and alerts in the mobile application and wireless connection and online sending of results to the treating physician are among the key features of the portable health monitoring device.

A set of new technologies has been used in making this device, including nanotechnology and micro-technology to accelerate molecular reactions in microfluidic channels in order to increase the accuracy and speed of sample analysis, photonics (immunofluorescence) for using antibodies labeled with fluorescent dyes to accurately detect optical changes in a blood sample, biotechnology to measure cardiac markers such as Troponin (a heart attack indicator) and D-dimer (a blood clot and embolism indicator), artificial intelligence for data processing and sending timely alerts for taking medication or performing therapeutic measures, and digital health (e-Health) for real-time connection to the mobile application and the treating physician to facilitate communication and rapid response.

In a relevant development in July, the technological team of an Iranian knowledge-based company has managed to produce various rapid diagnosis kits in the health sector, specially for heart attack and colon cancer.

“So far, we have succeeded in producing more than 9 knowledge-based products, and 7 of our products have received the necessary licenses from the Food and Drug Administration of Iran. In addition, we have obtained five nano-scale certificates from the Nanotechnology Development Headquarters and an ISO 13485 certificate (requirements for the production of medical equipment) from the Italian company IMQ,” Hadi Baqeri, the managing director of the knowledge-based company.

He described heart attack diagnosis kit as another product of the company, and said, “We import 2.5 million euros of this kit annually, which is used in emergencies for rapid diagnosis of heart attacks. So far, over one million pieces of this kit have been supplied to the country's heart hospitals.”

“We have also produced colon cancer screening kits in line with the Ministry of Health's program to screen for this disease, which is the third most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths. So far, over one and a half million tests of this product have been supplied to the Ministry of Health, resulting in the screening of one and a half million people in Iran,” Baqeri said.
