Iran Indigenizes over 900,000 Parts of Thermal Power Plants

TEHRAN (ANA)- Domestic development of over 900,000 power plants' parts, an 80 percent reduction in water consumption in some units, and the use of wastewater instead of raw water are among the important measures to deal with the power imbalance and resource crisis in Iran.

Simultaneously with the intensification of the electricity imbalance and the shortage of water resources in the country, the thermal power industry has taken effective steps to improve the sustainability of power plants by focusing on indigenization of equipment and developing technologies that reduce water consumption and pollution.

In the past eight years, over 922,000 power plant units worth 45 trillion rials have been indigenized in the country which plays an important role in increasing the sustainability of electricity production, reducing foreign exchange dependence, and supporting the Iranian companies.

Simultaneously with these measures, the installation of online pollutant monitoring equipment, modeling the distribution of pollution in fuel oil-fired power plants, managing industrial waste contaminated with PCBs, and implementing MRV projects to monitor greenhouse gas emissions are among other steps taken towards this goal.

In a relevant development in 2024, a group of engineers at an Iranian knowledge-based company had also produced spare parts for the overhaul and repair of several power plants in the country.

The Iran-made parts are at present being used in Jahrom combined cycle power plant, and Abadan, Yazd and Khorramshahr power plants.

“Our company is active in the two sectors of manufacturing and supplying power plant parts and monitoring the status of power plant, petrochemical and automobile industries, and one of the products is diesel nozzle for gas turbine combustion chamber,” said Ali Ahmadi Raad, a research and development expert of the knowledge-based company.

Noting that his company produces spare parts for all types of Siemens, General Electric and Hitachi gas turbines available in Iran, he said, “The design and manufacturing of these parts is carried out in this company. In the past, these parts were imported from abroad by some companies, and we managed to produce these parts by using ultra-advanced alloys and at a cost of one-fifth to one-tenth of the foreign sample.”

Ahmadi Raad explained that manufacturing and installing various tools for power plants, like training devices, rotor overhaul towers, and the supply or manufacturing of various gas and steam turbine overhaul parts, and industrial cooperation and consulting to upgrade the PM system of the power plant with new CM techniques are other fields of activities of the company.
