Iranian Knowledge-Based Company Produces Substance to Detect Level of Cell Toxicity
“If a substance enters the human body as a medicine or an implant that is supposed to contact with the body, a toxicity test should be taken to check that it does not cause cell toxicity in the body and the MTT is the required substance for this test,” Maryam Zareyee, the technical manager of this knowledge-based company, said.
“We did not import raw materials and made it domestically with difficulties, and produced the raw materials by conducting another research project,” she added.
The scientists have said that they can meet the country’s needs to the MTT for one year which is 1kg in just 3 weeks.
The product can compete with foreign samples qualitatively and in terms of price which is 20% of the imported samples and the raw materials needed for this product are also made inside the country.
The MTT assay is a colorimetric assay for measuring cell metabolic activity. It is based on the ability of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH)-dependent cellular oxidoreductase enzymes to reduce the tetrazolium dye MTT to its insoluble formazan, which has a purple color.
