In an interview with the Iranian Science and Technology news agency, Mohsen Sahraeian, who heads a team of engineers in Jahrom, in the Southern Iranian province of Fars, said that they have founded a technical company which has carried out different road construction, water canals, dam construction etc. over the past 15 years.

Sahraeian said that the name of their company is “Marsus”.

Regarding the smart concrete project, the head of the technical group said, "In the smart concrete project, considering the acceptable progress we have made so far, we hope to achieve desired results next year.”

"We put and bury specially designed sensors in sensitive and critical parts of the building structure in order to have online control of concrete strength through the connection to the designed software, which, God willing, in case of success, we will be able to assess the resistance status of the structure online and in time and If necessary, we will rehabilitate or at least evacuate the residents and prevent tragic incidents such as the recent  Metropole incident (Metropole building collapse in Abadan city),' he added.

Sahraeian also said about the textile-reinforced concrete (TRC) his research team decided to produce that type of concrete as well despite the fact that the country is under oppressive sanctions and lack of know-how knowledge and samples .

“We imported fabric concrete samples from England; We are currently in the phase of research, making prototypes and laboratory work,” he added.

Marsus director went on to say that fabric concrete or textile-reinforced concrete (TRC) is a new type of concrete which is produced in the form of rolls, the maximum thickness of which is 13 mm. It is a composite concrete material that employs textile reinforcement instead of steel reinforcement, adding the TRC reaches its 28-day resistance within 24 hours.
