Islamic Azad University’s Ilakhchi Branch Wins 2nd Title in Iran FIRA Open Competition

TEHRAN (ANA)- The robotics team of the Islamic Azad University’s Ilakhchi branch won the second place in the ‘Smart Warrior Robots’ league in the 12th International Iran FIRA Open Competition.

The team was led by Hamed Taqipour Farshi and other team members were Amir Mohammad Sajjadi and Arad Mamaqani.

“In line with the goals of the University's Innovation Center for Robotics Development, the under-19 team of the Islamic Azad University’s Ilakhchi branch participated in the Smart Warrior Robots League, which had 64 teams in the league,” Taqipour Farshi, the head of the Robotics Team of the Islamic Azad University’s Ilkhchi branch, told ANA.

“The IRC FIGHTER team of this university branch, after competing intensively with different teams over four days, was able to win the second place in this league,” he added.

The 12th International Free FIRA RoboWorld Cup competition was held in Tehran on April 15-18, 2024.

The competition, which is a qualifier for the FIRA RoboWorld Cup 2025 of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence in South Korea, was participated by a record-breaking 480 teams from 8 countries.

The top teams from this competition advanced to the FIRA RoboWorld Cup 2025 in South Korea.

The Federation of International Robot Sports Association (FIRA) is the oldest robot soccer competition in the world.

From humble beginnings, FIRA has grown to a major robotics competition with the goal using sports as benchmark problems for state of the art research in robotics and other related areas.

FIRA also includes the FIRA Air competition for autonomous flying robots, FIRA Challenge for robotics research with great societal benefits such as urban search and rescue robots, and FIRA Youth for the next generation of researchers.
