Iran Holds Micro Moon Explorer Robot League
"The league was held in cooperation with Iran's Space Research Institute during the 17th edition of the Iran Open RoboCup competitions,” Ali Khorshidi told ANA.
“In total, three teams from Islamic Azad University, one team from Khajeh Nasir Toosi University and one team from Shahed University participated in the competition,” he added.
“In this part of the competition, we have been provided with a small piece of land which is supposed to be used as a laboratory and space research center inside one of the buildings belonging to Science and Research branch of Islamic Azad University where the students and professionals can develop their robots on this field in the coming years,” Khorshidi said.
“This piece of land which is a simulated example of the surface of the moon, has five meters long and five meters wide.
Here, the robots programmed by different groups pick up specific samples embedded in the ground and return to their origin,” he added.
Khorshidi noted that other challenges have also been added which are related to artificial intelligence and machine vision issues, adding that those teams that are interested to earn extra points can be active in this field.
“Finally, robots are ranked based on the number of samples they return, time, creativity, teamwork spirit, innovation, etc.,” he concluded.
The international Iran Open RoboCup Competition was held at Tehran Azad University, Science and Research Branch, with the participation of 12 teams from foreign universities and schools and hundreds of Iranian teams.
The 17th edition of Iran's Azad RoboCup international competition was held at Tehran Azad University’s Science and Research Branch in cooperation among the Young and Elite Researchers Club, the Iran National RoboCup Committee and the Science and Research Branch of Islamic Azad University on April 26-28, 2023.
