Moazzameh Kordjezi, a researcher in the Fisheries Products Processing Group at Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, has conducted a study in this field, along with her colleagues from other Iranian universities.

They have produced a moisturizing cream by using the aqueous extract of Sargassum tenerimum algae, which has beneficial properties for the skin. This research was conducted in collaboration with Tehran University of Medical Sciences, the University of Tehran, and Chabahar University of Maritime and Marine Sciences.

In this study, the desired algae were first collected from the coasts of the Oman Sea and the Persian Gulf. Then, after initial washing, they were transferred to Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. In the laboratory, algae were extracted and, in the next stage, at the Center for Skin Diseases and Leprosy Education and Research of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, the extract was used in the formulation of a moisturizing cream with a concentration of 1%. To examine the effectiveness and stability of the cream, different tests were carried out on it, including microbial tests, examination of changes in color, odor, pH, and statistical tests using specialized software.

The results of the study showed that the produced cream remained stable for six months without changes in color, odor, and texture. Also, during this period, no microbial contamination was observed in the product, indicating its health and high quality.

In terms of physical and chemical properties, this cream maintained its stability at different temperatures and its formulation did not undergo phase separation.

Also, the studies showed that the produced cream can effectively maintain skin moisture and prevent dryness and environmental damage.

In a relevant development in 2022, an Iranian knowledge-based company had also managed to produce a special soap containing seaweed for dealing with facial blemishes and acne.

“The soap is anti-blemish and anti-acne and is made for the first time in the world with a new formula,” Shahrokh Khani, the managing director of the company, told ANA.

“I have registered 38 inventions so far,” Khani said, adding that some of the inventions have got licenses for healthcare products and are being produced on large scale.

“We have so far exported the products in the form of packages to Germany, the Netherlands, and the Persian Gulf littoral states such as Oman and the United Arab Emirates,” Khani said.
