Rehabilitation of Movement Disorder Patients with Iran-Made Force Gauges

TEHRAN (ANA)- A knowledge-based company in Iran succeeded in designing and producing a 3D force gauge plate, meeting one of the needs in rehabilitation of movement disorder patients.

“The force gauge or force plate is a tool used to measure the forces and torques exerted by an object on the ground in three dimensions. These forces are called ground reaction forces on the sole of the foot and are measured with the help of sensors mounted inside the device,” said Mojtaba Gohari, the managing director of the knowledge-based company.

Noting that this tool is very strategic and enjoys extensive applications, he said, “It has proven its effectiveness in research in the fields of rehabilitation sciences, laboratory sciences, biomechanics, sports medicine and therapy.”

“At present, laboratory, treatment, and research centers in Iran that are active in the fields of mechanical medicine and sports use this tool to study and examine human or animal gait, modify movement patterns, treat, and research and develop new technological solutions and products,” Gohari said.

A force gauge (also called a force meter) is a measuring instrument used to measure forces. Applications exist in research and development, laboratory, quality, production and field environment. There are two kinds of force gauges today; mechanical and digital force gauges.

Force gauges, also known as "push-pull gauge" or "push-pull scale" are measuring equipment that measures the load (force) acting on a sample. They can measure tension, compression, bending, shear, as well as peel, adhesion, and friction.
