“A knowledge-based company stationed at the university's incubator center produced a distinctive and innovative product in the field of dentistry called bleaching gel,” Mohammad Shahqoli, the director of incubator center of the Islamic Azad University’s Najafabad branch, told ANA.

“The tooth bleaching gel has a special formulation that performs the whitening process with high effectiveness without damaging the tooth enamel,” he added.

“With its chemical action, the product targets the pigments in the tooth structure, which can be of internal or external origin, and causes them to break down and be removed. The most important advantage of this gel is that it has no negative effect on the tooth structure and completely preserves the health of its enamel,” Shahqoli added.

In a relevant development in November, Iranian researchers at a start-up team had also achieved the formulation of producing toothpastes based on nanohydroxyapatite to reduce tooth sensitivity.

“This toothpaste was produced with a new formulation based on natural derivatives like plant extracts, and valuable oral probiotic compounds and hydroxyapatite nanostructure,” said Hamed Tashakkorian, the head of the research and development (R&D) sector of the team.

“These compounds are effective in controlling the microbial load and preventing the formation of plaque on the teeth,” he added.

He described reducing tooth sensitivity and helping to eliminate bad breath as other benefits of this toothpaste, and stated, “This toothpaste can be used by general consumers and children over seven years old.”
