Iranian Scientists Add Nitrogen, Sulfur to Soil to Neutralize Alkali

TEHRAN (ANA)- Converting elemental sulfur into fertilizer along with adding nitrogen and sulfur to the soil to neutralize alkali is the achievement of researchers at an Iranian company stationed at Islamic Azad University’s Bandar Abbas branch.

“We converted excess elemental sulfur into fertilizer with the help of nitrogen which prevented the import of fertilizer,” said Maziar Yahyavi, the director of the incubator center of Islamic Azad University’s Bandar Abbas branch.

“Ofoq Fanous Langargah technological company stationed at the incubator center of Islamic Azad University’s Bandar Abbas branch is the only Iranian company that has produced this fertilizer, and since we add nitrogen and sulfur to the soil at the same time, it neutralizes the alkalinity of the soil,” he added.

“Most of Iran’s agricultural soils, specially in the Southern region, are alkaline, and since the acidic nature causes alkalinity to be neutralized, therefore, production efficiency increases, and it leads to better stabilization of nitrogen in the soil, which has an impact on production and does not cause pollution,” Yahyavi said.

In a relevant development in July, Iranian researchers at a technology company in Iran have successfully produced organic fertilizers using new and advanced methods to help farmers produce high-quality and healthy crops.

The company "Sabzgostran Mazar’ Giti", which is based in the science and technology park of Islamic Azad University, Najafabad Branch (IAUN) has produced organic fertilizers in line with its goal of developing and supporting green agriculture.

Erfan Hosseini Beheshti, the managing director of the Iranian knowledge-based company, told ANA that his company was established in 2012 with developing green agriculture on its agenda.

“Over the past years, focusing on research and development of new technologies, we launched several projects in the field of agriculture. The products and services of this company have made great contribution to improvement in the use of land and the performance of farmers,” he told ANA.

“Using organic materials and natural supplements in the production of products shows the attention of this company to the environment and the restoration of the soil ecosystem as well as the health of consumers,” he said, adding, “Employing advanced methods to optimize the production process of agricultural products has saved the life of living and useful organisms in the soil.”

He noted that living organisms are destroyed in the soil if farmers use chemicals.

Beheshti went on to say that the organic fertilizer improves the quality of agricultural products, and protects the environment against desertification.
