UNESCO Picks up Kermanshah as Creative City of Bread
“One of these specialized fields is the issue of bread, which has been worked on by creative food cities of the world, and we also started planning about it seven months ago to introduce the capacities of Kermanshah in this field, and submitted necessary documents to the UNESCO,” said Iman Derakhshi, the head of the cultural, social and sports organization of Kermanshah’s municipality.
He added that five breads special to Kermanshah like Taptapi and Saji, and a number of sweets and bread derivatives, like Borsaq and Kalane, were introduced to the UNESCO.
“After reviewing the case, UNESCO approved it and Kermanshah was given the necessary points to be included in the list of creative bread cities,” Derakhshi said.
Earlier, in 2021, UNESCO had picked up Iran’s Kermanshah as a creative city of gastronomy.
A paradise for history-lovers, nature-enthusiasts, and foodies, Kermanshah was among 49 cities worldwide to join the UNESCO creative cities network (UCCN).
The 49 cities were added to the network of 246 cities following their designation by UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, in recognition of "their commitment to placing culture and creativity at the heart of their development and to sharing knowledge and good practices".
