Iranian Company Produces Iron Rust Convertor with Waterproof Layer, Multiple Resistance

TEHRAN (ANA)- A knowledge-based company in Iran succeeded in producing an anti-rust product called iron rust converter which can protect iron and metals against rust and corrosion and increase their resistance with a waterproof layer.

“At present, as a knowledge-based company, we are stationed at the incubator center of Islamic Azad University’s Pardis branch and we are specialized in the field of electrostatic powder paints, and in addition to powder paints, we have developed products based on electrostatic nanotechnology, which enjoy antibacterial and anti-corrosion properties,” Mehdi Rahmani, the managing director of the knowledge-based company, told ANA.

“We presented other products to the market based on the needs of the industry, including waterproof wood glue, iron rust converter, structure restorer, traffic paints and liquid paints, pool paints, building facade, waterproof insulation and a series of products in building chemistry, wood industry and metal industries,” he added.

“We have also succeeded in exporting indirectly to different countries, including Armenia, Iraq, Afghanistan, China and Canada,” Rahmani said.

Rust converters are chemical solutions or primers that can be applied directly to an iron or iron alloy surface to convert iron oxides (rust) into a protective chemical barrier. These compounds interact with iron oxides, especially iron(III) oxide, converting them into an adherent black layer (black oxide) that is more resistant to moisture and protects the surface from further corrosion. They are sometimes referred to as "rust remover" or "rust killer".

Commercial rust converters are water-based and contain two primary active ingredients: tannic acid and an organic polymer. Tannic acid chemically converts the reddish iron oxides into bluish-black ferric tannate, a more stable material. The second active ingredient is an organic solvent such as 2-butoxyethanol (ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, trade name butyl cellosolve) that acts as a wetting agent and provides a protective primer layer in conjunction with an organic polymer emulsion.
