Iranian Experts Use Nanochlorine as Cost-Effective, Efficient Solution for Water Treatment

TEHRAN (ANA)- Researchers at an Iranian knowledge-based company developed a new system for water and wastewater treatment by using nanotechnology which both reduces costs and improves water quality.

“In our company, we focus on the production of nano systems for wide applications in various industries, including aquaculture, agriculture, water and wastewater treatment, and mining,” Aref Dadgostar, the managing director of the knowledge-based company.

“Chlorination, as one of the vital steps in water and wastewater treatment, plays an important role in water and wastewater disinfection. Considering the importance of public health and the introduction of purified water into the consumption cycle, the safety and efficiency of this new system have been fully studied,” he said.

Noting that the high consumption of chlorine in these methods, in addition to increasing operating costs brings environmental challenges, Dadgostar said, “On the contrary, the use of nanochlorine with a significant reduction in chlorine consumption reduces costs and returns the invested money in less than three years.”

“The increase in chlorine consumption in the purification process, in addition to increasing environmental risks, leads to the production of toxic and dangerous by-products, which can have irreparable consequences if the wastewater enters agricultural lands, underground and surface water. By using this technology, we managed to reduce chlorine consumption by 30%. This achievement, in addition to improving the disinfection efficiency, has led to an eye-catching reduction in the production of harmful side products in the purification process,” he said.

In a relevant development last year, an Iranian knowledge-based company had manufactured and installed a chlorination system in 12 villages to provide people with healthy drinking water.

Drinking water chlorination is the addition of chlorine to drinking water systems. It is the most common type of drinking water disinfection.

The in-line chlorination system is a device that injects chlorine into the water without using electricity and is used in remote areas.

The chlorination system does not have a foreign model, Milad Karamlou, a member of the board of directors of the company, pointed out.

It is a device that injects chlorine into the water without using electricity and is used in remote areas, Karamlou said.

He went on to say that the system does not require special equipment such as an engine room and other equipment.
