Iranian Universities Launch Specialists Program in Physiotherapy for 1st Time

TEHRAN (ANA)- The deputy health minister of Iran said that as many as 150 PhD students in physiotherapy will be accepted for the first time in the country at six top universities to continue their studies in specialist programs.

Abolfazl Bagherifard, the deputy Iranian health minister for educational affairs, made the remarks on an inspection visit to the venue where the entrance exam for specialist course in Physiotherapy was held.

“Rehabilitation fields, especially physiotherapy, are becoming more and more relevant given the increase in life expectancy and aging population,” the deputy health minister said.

This field of study used to accept students in bachelor's, master's and PhD degrees previously, and the establishment of a specialist course in physiotherapy was requested by professors and students for many years. This year, for the first time in the country, the approved professional doctorate course and its exam was held for the first time," Bagherifard said.

He said that about 1,900 people were taking the exam, adding, "About 150 people will be admitted to 6 universities. This field of study did not exist in the country for many years and students used to travel to countries in the region to study it."
