Iranian Experts Make Special Electricity Meter by Using Optical Port

TEHRAN (ANA)- Technologists of an Iranian knowledge-based company stationed at the Science and Technology Park of University of Tehran designed and manufactured a product called ‘Bluetooth optical probe OP-740' which can receive information through an optical port from household and industrial electricity meters.

“Bluetooth optical probe OP-740 is a two-way interface based on the international standard to exchange information between the meter and the reading device,” Arash Qeylav, the managing-director of the company, told ANA.

“The exchange of information between the probe and the meter is carried out through the optical port, and then the information is sent to the Android device through Bluetooth waves,” he added.

Noting that the device includes the Android library file for programmers and developers through which they will be able to establish a connection between the optical probe and their software, Qeylav said that among other advantages of the product are having an internal rechargeable battery with a large capacity, having a strong magnet to keep the probe fixed on the meter, and the possibility of downloading all the information in the meter and applying new settings to it.

“This device enjoys the capability to read different types of single-phase and three-phase digital household and industrial meters,” he underlined.

In a relevant development in July, experts at an Iranian knowledge-based company succeeded in production of remote electricity meters by using the technology of TM-100 (Transparent Modem).

“The TM-100 is a telecommunication modem with 2G/4G communication coverage which is connected to the digital electricity meters in the meter board through the RS485 port and it can be used for reading the electricity meters remotely,” said Arash Qeylav, the managing director of the knowledge-based company stationed at the Science and Technology Park of the University of Tehran.

Noting that by using this device, the agents do not need to be present at the place to read the meter which reduces human errors in reading, he said, “Also controlling the customer’s electricity consumption is possible by using this method.”

“The exchange of modem information with the central management software is carried out in the standard format of the electricity industry and securely, and its adjustment is possible locally and remotely,” Qeylav said.

He described stable connection with electricity meters, removal of antenna blind spots with external antenna and data authentication and encryption as the advantages of the product.
