Watch Sharks at 20cm Distance with Iran-Made Underwater Tram
An Iranian knowledge-based company participating in the Islamic Azad University's Asreh Omid Event presented the idea of an underwater tram that can be turned into a tourist attraction.
The event was held in Tehran's Mosalla from May 29 to June 1, 2022.
On the sidelines of the event, Sajjad Khaki, the developer of the underwater tram, told ANA that the idea has not been turned into a product yet, and to achieve the goal, especially in areas where there are coral islands, we need 150 billion rials (about $500,000).
There is a restaurant next to an artificial coral reef in Dubai. However, entry to the area costs a lot, and people who want to go to the place have to pay the cost of providing oxygen to the water of that aquarium, Khaki explained.
The idea of an underwater tram has been presented by the Islamic Azad University, Ilam branch, he said, adding that there are currently three big aquariums in the country in the cities of Anzali, Isfahan, and Kish Island.
He went on to say that in the underwater tram, the space can be turned into a restaurant. So, we can turn every cabin into a restaurant to let people inside it go sightseeing.
“The underwater tram has the potential to become a tourist attraction. If we implement the plan in Kish, surely there will be more passengers on the island,” he said.
“Airlines, hotels, travel agencies, and supermarkets will be strengthened and it will generate income for businesses,” Khaki stressed.
When you get on the underwater tram you can go sightseeing, and you can even take pictures from inside the tram and attract sea animals by giving food, he pointed out.
In some parts of the world, people go inside steel cages with diving suits and oxygen tanks to watch sharks. Of course, the elderly or physically disabled people are not able to do this.
But in our underwater tram, people can sit in a wheelchair inside and watch a shark 20 centimeters away from behind the glass.
The wall of the underwater tram is made of polycarbonate and has excellent transparency and is able to withstand shocks, Khaki noted.
It is safe against any accident so the windows are very unlikely to break. If an accident happens, we will be able to take people out as soon as possible and the work is done conveniently, he concluded.
