Minister: Seven Oil fields in Iran under Development with Russian Investment

TEHRAN (ANA)- Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji announced that seven oilfields in Iran are being developed with the investment of Russians, adding that both countries have agreed to cooperate more in this field.

Tehran and Moscow reviewed their past three years of economic cooperation, comprising all the interested bilateral issues, in the framework of the Iran-Russia Economic Cooperation Joint Commission, reaching good deals with regard to developing new oil fields in Iran.

Owji who is the head of Iranian side of the Iran-Russia Economic Cooperation Joint Commission made the remarks, outlining the result of his talks with his Russian counterpart in the Commission, Alexandr Novak, Deputy Prime Minister of Russian Federation, and Sergei Tsivilev Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation who will take Novak’s place as the Russian head of the Commission soon.   

The Iranian minister said that at present seven Iranian oilfields are being developed with the investment of Russian companies, adding 220,000 barrels a day of Iran’s oil production come from those fields in which the Russian companies have invested.

“We held talks about the Russian companies’ investments in new Iranian oil fields as well,” he added.

Owji said that exports of oil and petrochemical products, and the technology transfer were the other issues the two sides talked about.

According to him, Iranian experts provide the Russian companies’ needs in the upstream and downstream sectors of the oil industry and reciprocally part of Iranian oil and gas industry needs are being met by the Russian companies; the issues that two sides held talks about them in Moscow and managed to reach good deals.

In a relevant development in November and on a visit to Russia, Iranian Vice-President for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, Rouhollah Dehghani Firouzabadi held a meeting with the Denis Manturov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

In the meeting,  Firouzabadi and Manturov exchanged views on the fields of cooperation between the two countries in various fields of technology.

Kazem Jalali, Iran's ambassador to Moscow and Andrei Fursenko, an Aide to the President of the Russian Federation were also attending the meeting, where Manturov stressed the need for expanding bilateral cooperation and pointed to automotive industry, auto parts and spare parts, aircraft manufacturing, medicine and medical equipment as the areas of interest for cooperation between the two countries.

Dehghani Firouzabadi, for his part, assessed Russia as a prominent country in various fields and considered the oppressive sanctions as laying the ground for Iran's progress, especially in the technology and knowledge-based areas.

Iran’s scientific vice-president also declared Tehran's readiness to cooperate in various fields, including health and hygiene, knowledge-based equipment, environment and healthy and sustainable food, energy and the field of transportation in the shipbuilding, automobile and aircraft areas.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed to follow up on the areas of mutual interest as soon as possible by creating specialized working groups in different departments.
