‘Safiran Sabz Jahannama’ technological company produced salicornia plant powder and salicornia plant salt for the first time in Iran, Mehrnesa Qarakhani, the managing director of the company, told ANA.

“Salicornia plant is a salt-loving plant that has recently attracted the attention of many people in the world due to its special specifications, including its ability to replace table salt in foods due to its salty taste. The therapeutic advantage of this product is that it does not increase blood pressure and rather balances blood pressure after a period of using,” she said.

Qarakhani added that salicornia plant enjoys the ability to grow well in salty lands with unusual waters, salty waters, even sea water and water from wells that were used for agriculture and have become salty over time and now cannot be used, and in fact, by cultivating salicornia plant de-desertification can be performed and a high-quality and nutrient product can be produced which is known as a super food in the world.

“Every 100g of salicornia powder is worth $100 which is a good opportunity for the exports,” she underlined.

Salicornia is a genus of succulent, halophytic (salt tolerant) flowering plants in the family Amaranthaceae that grow in salt marshes, on beaches, and among mangroves. Salicornia species are native to North America, Europe, Central Asia, and Southern Africa. Common names for the genus include glasswort, pickleweed, picklegrass, and marsh samphire.
