Carlos delivered this update during the opening of the 13th Water, Energy and Environment Forum in Luanda, Angola's capital. He said that hydroelectric generation has risen from 39 percent in 2015 to about 60 percent in 2023 in the country's energy mix, while thermal generation has decreased from 61 percent to about 36 percent.

He also said that the Angolan government aims to increase the national electrification rate from the current 43 percent to 50 percent by 2027, with a specific emphasis on interconnecting provinces.

Diogenes Diogo, the national director of electric energy, said during the forum that Luanda is the only province with an electrification rate exceeding 50 percent, while Cunene Province, located in the south, has the lowest rate of 9.7 percent.
