“Today, the country's power plant industry has become self-sufficient with the unveiling and launch of the gas generator system, and the last link of the country's power plant construction has been completed with the help of domestic experts,” Mehrabian told reporters.

He added that during the last three years over 8,500 megawatts were added to the country's electricity generation capacity which has played a significant role in resolving the electricity imbalance.

“The exchange of electricity with the neighboring countries is one of the main policies of the Energy Ministry. In general, during a year, we have 80% of exports and 20% of imports,” Mehrabian said.

Mehrabian had also in February underlined self-sufficiency in water and electricity industry, saying that the country’s specialists were working on water and electricity projects in more than 50 world states.

“The specialists of our country's water and electricity industry are active in over 50 countries of the world,” the minister said.

“Iran has achieved 100% self-sufficiency in water and electricity sector, and the measures adopted in the water and electricity fields not only meet the needs of the country but also other countries, specially the regional states,” he added.

Mehrabian also said that construction of renewable energy power plants with the capacity of 11,000 megawatts by the private sector has started.
