Hadi Talebian Moghadam, the Director General of the Indian Subcontinent (South Asia) Department at the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI) said that during last year of 1402 in the Iranian calendar (March 21, 2023-2024), Iran and India trade balance was positive, adding that the necessary planning for openning a new trade center in Mumbai and deploying a trade attaché there this year has been made.

He considered India as one of Iran's main foreign trade partners, adding, “Negotiations on concluding a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in the agricultural sector to pave the ground for more cooperation between TPOI and India started last year, and it seems that this matter will be finalized this year.”

According to him, India-Iran bilateral trade during 1402 saw 2% increase in value and 27% increase in weight from 5,460,000 tons to 6,962,000 tons.

Referring to the recent visit of the Indian foreign minister to Iran, Talebian Moghadam said that both sides are resolved to strengthen economic and commercial relations.

The official announced the planning to open a trade center in the Indian port city of Mumbai, saying, “India's huge population and economic potential for trade development made us at the TOPI dispatch a second trade attaché there.”

“India is a BRICS member, and Iran's joining this group paves the way for using the commercial potential provided by the members of this group,” he noted, adding that the North-South Corridor which links seas in the Southern part of Iran to the Central Asia and Eurasia allows India to have easy access to those vast regions.
