Young Iranian Researcher Helps Homeowners with Smartphones
Baran Mousavi, who was present at the "Age of Hope" exhibition (Asreh Omid Event) held by the Islamic Azad University in Tehran's Grand Mossalla in late May, told ANA correspondent that she presented two projects “smart homes”, and "smart nurses.”
The young researcher, who is a student of fifth grade at Sama School run by the Islamic Azad University in Yasuj city, said about her Smart Home that it has a brain (a microcontroller) that has access to all sensors and does the things we do at home automatically.
“When the Sun rises and as soon as it is day, the light sensor gives an order and all the lamps in the house are turned off or the degrees of brightness of the lights are reduced, and on the contrary, when it gets dark, the lights are turned on automatically," she added.
“Because every year many people lose their lives as a result of gas leak we also used a gas sensor that informs us with an alert if there is a gas leak. When we want to leave home, we activate the alarm sensor, so that if someone enters our house, the alarm will go off and inform us, and the sensor alarm will not be deactivated until we enter the code again The schoolgirl went on to elaborate more that," Mousavi went on to say.
She said that a system is also installed to open or close the doors in houses, adding, "Instead of a key, we enter a code to open the door. This way, when we enter the code, the door opens and closes automatically after five seconds. Moreover, we can always see the clock, calendar and exact temperature on the screen".
She explained about her second project, "smart nurse", and said, "My mother is a nurse and during the Covid-19 pandemic, I really felt the hardships and difficult situation that nurses were going through; therefore, I came up with an idea".
“The Smart Nurse can easily do things that nurses may find difficult to do in a few minutes, for example, a person who has a serious illness and is lying on a bed in a room and is discharged, their room must be completely disinfected for the next patient in that room. It can be done, there will be no problem. The nurses have to go to that room, put the radiation and then go out; However, the nurse herself may get sick, the smart nurse goes into the room and disinfects it completely no matter how much radiation there is, and then there will be no danger for the nurses," Mousavi added.
“The Smart Nurse has a box that transports the medicines and equipment needed by the nurses, since the outbreak of Coronavirus, measuring the blood oxygen in the patients has become very important, and in the wards that are crowded, the nurses do not take the time to take the blood oxygen of all the patients carefully. For this reason, we used a blood oxygen measuring device in the Smart Nurse, where the patient puts his finger on that device and measures the blood oxygen and displays it on the screen and the related website, and it also has a sensor that can be used without touching the body. It will automatically disinfect our hands," she explained.
“If you specify a path for the Smart Nurse to follow, if there is an obstacle in front of it, it will beep and not move, and if the obstacle is removed from its path in a few seconds, it will continue its way, and if it is not removed, it will turn off. So, no more energy is wasted until the barrier is removed," the teenage researcher went on to elaborate.
She concluded that "the Smart Nurse is currently going through production process now."
Islamic Azad University's "second step of revolution" under the title of Asreh Omid Event was held in Tehran's Mosalla from May 29 to June 01, 2022 to exhibit new achievements, equipments and products in the technological and innovation arenas in line with opening new windows towards strengthening the idea of creating ground for knowledge-based businesses at the 40th anniversary of establishment of the Islamic Azad University.
