Mohsen Razmjou, the manging director of the knowledge-based Yassin Project Parsian Ebtekar company, underlined serious activities of his company in the field of technological management of industrial waste, and said, “We tried to develop different types of refineries in the form of production lines and packages due to the growth of industry in Iran and the importance of reusing water resources as well as preventing the environmental damages of industrial wastes.”

Noting that different industries, including as steel plants, petrochemicals, electroplating firms, poison making plants and car manufacturing companies use the services of Yassin Project Parsian Ebtekar company, he said that his company performs the purification process in these industrial units by using the electrochemical method and adding some chemicals.

“Depending on the customer's needs, it is possible to proceed to the stage of obtaining environmental approval and use purified water for reuse in industrial units or for irrigation of infertile plants,” Razmjou said.

Also, the waste materials left in the form of sludge are first dewatered and then the left dry mud is either delivered to the environmental units for destruction, or it can be reused due to the valuable materials inside the mud or as fertilizer, he added.

“If the volume of liquid waste is small, only one package is installed on the site, and on larger scales, a complete production line for purification is built to manage the waste of the industrial unit,” Razmjou said.

Industrial waste is manufacturing waste from a wide range of different processes, such as sludges, product residues, kiln dust, slags, and ashes. The majority of industrial waste comes from three types of industries, including metallurgy, nonmetallurgy, and food processing industries. The waste may differ from industry to industry according to the raw materials used, the manufacturing processes, and the product outlets, but these kinds of wastes can be categorized into three forms: solids, liquids, and gases.

Not all the wastes are similar; they may have inorganic fractions, organic fractions, biodegradable fractions, nonbiodegradable substances, be recyclable, etc. The main treatment concerns for industrial waste is the efficient management of the liquid waste produced. Liquid waste may be alkaline or acidic with dissolved, suspended, or inseparable organic and inorganic fractions.
