Iran’s Annual Petrochemical Products to Exceed 75 Million Tons
Iran produced 69.5 million tons of petrochemicals in the previous year (March 2022-March 2023), Shahmirzayee said, predicting the figure will top 75 million tons this year.
Iran’s petrochemical exports will reach 29 million tons by the end of the current Iranian calendar year, he added, noting that the expected figure shows a 1.5-million-ton year-on-year increase.
Shahmirzayee also said that 12 projects, including Gachsaran Petrochemical Complex and Persian Gulf Hoveyzeh Gas Refinery, were inaugurated as pledged in the current Iranian year, adding other projects like Arian Methanol, Petronad, Nakhl Asmari, and Hengam are ready for the official inauguration.
He also referred to collection of flare gases, and said most of associated gases are gathered in Persian Gulf Bidboland Gas Refinery, NGL 3200, and Persian Gulf Hoveyzeh Gas Refinery.
Secretary General of Iran's Association of Petrochemical Industry Corporation (APIC) Ahmad Mahdavi Abhari had announced in January that the country’s petrochemical industry brought $61 billion in the past 5 years.
Mahdavi Abhari said that the petrochemical industry has also supplied 27 million tons of raw materials worth $26 billion to the downstream sector and 11 million tons of fertilizers to the agricultural sector since 2018.
He described the petrochemical industry as the locomotive of Iran’s economy, stressing that the industry has a great capacity for development, production, and exports.
The petrochemical sector’s revenues in the past Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20, 2023) reached $16 billion and its output in the first eight months of the current Persian calendar year increased 8%.
