VP: Sharif University’s Science, Technology Park to Host 100 New Knowledge-Based Firms
“The building that was inaugurated today, with an area of 1,000 square meters, provides a useful space for technological and innovative work to at least 25 innovative teams, and is a step towards materialization of a large plan implemented under the title of Simorq with the aim of developing the knowledge-based companies,” Dehqani Firouzabadi said.
He explained that within the framework of Simorq plan, the science and technology park of Sharif University of Technology has been entrusted with adding 100 start-up knowledge-based companies within two years and providing them with the necessary support.
“Support for the development of new university-based knowledge-based companies, in cooperation with universities and science and technology parks, establishment support, and initial investment and financing are among the supports provided by the Iranian Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy,” Dehqani Firouzabadi said.
“Sharif University of Technology also provides equipment, laboratories, professors and other facilities to help the success of this plan,” he added.
Dehqani Firouzabadi had announced in January that the country’s exports of knowledge-based products will reach $2bln by the end of the current Persian calendar year (March 19).
“In 2019, the exports of knowledge-based products was $600 million, but in 2020, due to the spread of the coronavirus, this figure decreased to $300 million. In 2021, the export of knowledge-based products increased to $600 million, in 2022 to $850 million, and in 2023 to $1.5 billion; and this amount is expected to reach $2 billion by the end of the year,” Dehqani Firouzabadi said.
He also announced the establishment of a joint science and technology park by Iran and Uzbekistan.
“We are also looking for opportunities to attract the (scientific) elite. One of our main goals to achieve this goal is to create domestic and foreign markets,” he said.
