Iran to Develop Gemstones Labs
The executors of the national plan of gemstone industries promoted by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation (IMIDRO) in cooperation with the laboratory network of strategic technologies of the Iranian Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology underscored their intentiom to identify and strengthen real and legal laboratories and scientific, research and university centers that enjoy experience, expertise and related equipment in this field in a bid to organize, bolster and develop the labs of precious stones in Iran.
Therefore, the real and legal laboratories active in this area are invited to visit the strategic technologies laboratory network website for registration.
The benefits of being a member of the special gemstone working group include the formation of a working group and linking the gemstone laboratories, the formation of a special working group of experts in the gemstone field, benefiting from the support for holding educational and specialized workshops, benefiting from financial support and specialized advice for the establishment and receipt of ISO/ IEC17025 standard certification and benefiting from various support in order to supply parts, repair equipment and buy devices made in Iran.
Given the importance of the issue and the IMIDRO’s special attention to strengthening this area, the proposed support is allocated merely to laboratory centers that are members of the laboratory network.
Head of the Union of Manufacturers and Exporters of Gold, Silver, and Precious Stones in Iran Hojjat Shafayee said that Iran is currently among the top seven producing countries in the gold and gemstone sector.
He added that in the industry of producing gold, silver, and precious stones, Hong Kong, Turkey, Thailand, India, Italy, South Korea, and Iran are active.
Shafayee said, of course, in the consumption sector, Iranians are among the top 15 in using gold, silver, and precious stones in the world.
He added that the fluctuations in gold and currency prices have affected the amount of trade of gold, and have led to a stagnation in the trade of gold and precious stones.
Shafayee said that there are about 18 gold, silver, and precious stones mines registered in Iran, and according to the official statistics, five mines are more active than the other ones.
He added that in the field of precious stones mines, Iran can be one of the exporters of this sector in the world because 17% of the world's precious stone mines are located in Iran.
