Mahdavi Abhari said that the petrochemical industry has also supplied 27 million tons of raw materials worth $26 billion to the downstream sector and 11 million tons of fertilizers to the agricultural sector since 2018.

He described the petrochemical industry as the locomotive of Iran’s economy, stressing that the industry has a great capacity for development, production, and exports.

The petrochemical sector’s revenues in the past Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20, 2023) reached $16 billion and its output in the first eight months of the current Persian calendar year increased 8%.

The National Petrochemical Company (NPC) managing-director Morteza Shamirzayee announced in October that Iran’s petrochemical production will reach around 78 million tons by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 19, 2024).

He added that the output targeted for the first six months (March 21-September 22, 2023) has been materialized as more than 35 million tons of petrochemicals were produced during the period.

The National Petrochemical Company has given priority to supplying domestic industries with feedstock, he mentioned, adding, the country’s petrochemical production will reach around 78 million tons by mid-March.

Completion of the value chain is on the agenda of the Oil Ministry, underlined Shahmirzayee, adding, “We are determined to produce all types of petrochemicals.”
