Anti-Roach Gel Containing Effective Ingredient Produced in Iran

TEHRAN (ANA)- A start-up team of basic chemical engineering students stationed at the science and technology park of University of Tehran succeeded in producing an anti-cockroach gel which contains an effective substance.

“This gel contains an effective substance with a formulation made by our own team, which we have reverse engineered. Before making this product, the active ingredient used was imported from abroad,” Ali Ramezani, a chemical engineering student and founder of the startup team, told ANA.

He explained that the new cockroach gel is in the form of cockroach bait, adding, “When it enters the insect's body, it becomes poisoned by the secretion of the active substance and eventually all the insect colonies are infected with this gel.”

“The main goal of the team was to reduce the growth of insects, including small German cockroaches (which are often found in cabinets and wooden shelves),” Ramezani said.

In a relevant development in November, pheromone traps designed and made by an Iranian producer were able to help farmers get rid of forestry pest insects.

Safa Farrokhi, the producer of pheromone traps, told ANA that wood-eating pests in forests can be destroyed by using this product.

Pheromone traps use chemical signals (pheromones) emitted by females to attract a mate.

The traps are most often used in food warehouses and food-processing facilities.

Over the past few years, the wood-eating pest was very common in the country, especially in the forests of Gilan province, she said.

So, I decided to solve the problem using pheromone traps, Farrokhi added.
