The Public Relations Office of Isfahan Scientific and Research Town announced that the ‘Nano Fanavar Ala’ nanotechnology knowledge-based company stationed in the town has been planning of producing multi-layer wound dressings for healing butterfly patients since 2019.

It added that the prototype model of the dressings for butterfly patients has now been prepared by the company and is waiting for the production licenses.

The managing director of the company confirmed production of the special dressings, and said, “In fact, facilitating the mechanisms and obtaining licenses is a prerequisite for the promotion of knowledge-based production, and the supervision of the relevant institutions is more important than formation of knowledge-based companies.”

So far, nearly 950 butterfly patients have been identified in Iran, who have faced severe problems in providing dressings and medicine due to the imposition of cruel sanctions by the US against the country in recent years.

Often known as butterfly children because their skin is as fragile as the wings of a butterfly, EB patients need special care. Even mild frictions or bumps cause severe blistering of the skin which is very painful.

They often have difficulty with their daily activities, such as walking, eating and even breathing, but without proper protective bandages, their agony would be heartbreaking.

The trade of humanitarian goods, such as food, medicine and medical devices, is on paper allowed by the US, still European companies refuse to do business with Iran, fearing secondary American sanctions.

following reimposition of sanctions, Swedish medical products firm Molnlycke Health Care stopped delivering Mepilex dressings which are trusted around the world to treat a wide range of chronic and acute wounds, including in EB patients.
