Colon Cancer Detection Kits Produced in Iran
“Our company is a specialized producer of different rapid diagnosis kits like cardiac panel to diagnose heart attack, infectious panel to diagnose stomach infection, hepatitis and other infections,” said Hamed Baqeri, the managing director of Zist Tashkhish Sanjeh company.
Noting that the diagnosis kits produced by the company enjoy 90% accuracy, he said, “At present, colonoscopy is performed to diagnose colon cancer which is an invasive and expensive procedure and many people are not willing to do it.”
“With the help of this kit and with a simple stool sampling, it is possible to know whether a person has colon cancer or not, and if the result of the diagnostic kit is positive, the person will be sent for a colonoscopy,” Baqeri said.
He added that his company has so far produced 9 knowledge-based products that have entered the market under the title of Sanjeh brand and are used in pathology laboratories, hospitals, and health centers, stating, “ Ten percent of the market is in our hands and this product (the colon cancer detection kit) has entered the market like other products.”
“One of the competitive advantages of the colon cancer detection kit is its high accuracy compared to similar samples and its lower cost,” Baqeri said.
Colon cancer is a growth of cells that begins in a part of the large intestine called the colon. The colon is the first and longest part of the large intestine. The large intestine is the last part of the digestive system. The digestive system breaks down food for the body to use.
Colon cancer typically affects older adults, though it can happen at any age. It usually begins as small clumps of cells called polyps that form inside the colon. Polyps generally aren't cancerous, but some can turn into colon cancers over time.
Polyps often don't cause symptoms. For this reason, doctors recommend regular screening tests to look for polyps in the colon. Finding and removing polyps helps prevent colon cancer.
If colon cancer develops, many treatments can help control it. Treatments include surgery, radiation therapy and medicines, such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy.
