Advisor to BioCubaPharma Company Stresses Continued Cooperation with Iran in Production of Vaccine
“The centers we visited in Iran enjoyed a high scientific level. The Iranian government's policy of using the knowledge-based companies to meet domestic needs has been a positive policy. Iran is a country with over 80 million people and it is big enough to guarantee its own development,” Martinez said.
“Therefore, I believe that we can continue cooperation between Iran and Cuba in the field of biotechnology, like the vaccination project for animals, and the development of medicine for diabetic patients that can prevent amputation. These drugs are complementary and will undoubtedly bring good results,” he added.
Martinez underscored that the result of these interactions, in addition to solving problems in Iran and Cuba in the fields of biotechnology, can be exported to other countries as a joint product.
Iranian Health Minister Bahram Einollahi announced in June plans to increase cooperation with Cuba in production of new vaccines after the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this area.
"We have had age-old cooperation with Cuba since 1979 after the Islamic Revolution until now in the field of creating health networks in the country," Einollahi said during a visit to Cuba.
Noting that Cuba is one of the advanced countries in the field of vaccine production, he said that the vaccine production technology was imported from Cuba to Iran.
“Based on these agreements between the two countries, we plan to increase the volume and types of our vaccines in a bid to produce newer vaccines," Einollahi said.
He added that also hi-tech drugs, specially for the treatment of cancer, will be produced in cooperation with Cuba.
