"Water shortage is one of the challenges facing the world today; to compensate for the water shortage, specially in Iran, we have to preserve the existing water resources. Naturally one of the best solutions is to reduce and eliminate water pollutants,” Valeh Arabzadeh told ANA on the sidelines of Asreh Omid Event in Tehran.

“The origin of these pollutants can be from agricultural toxins to pollution produced by various industries,” she added.

The research team of Islamic Azad University’s Jouybar branch has presented a new and low-cost method to reduce water pollution by removing the pollutants, Arabzadeh said, adding, “In a new and low-cost way to decrease water pollution, we prepared adsorbents based on natural compounds, including bentonite, chitosan, and carbon along with metal nanoparticles such as zero iron, which enjoy the capability to remove organic and inorganic pollutants, and mixed them with polluted water.”

She described high efficiency, speed, simplicity, effective application, possibility of reviving the absorbent materials, compatibility with the environment and non-production of sludge as advantages of the method.

Asreh Omid Event was held in Tehran's Mosalla from May 29 to June 1, 2022.

The event aimed to exhibit new achievements and products in the technological and innovation arenas in line with opening new windows towards strengthening the idea of creating ground for knowledge-based businesses at the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Islamic Azad University.

Some 3,000 knowledge-based companies, laboratories, research centers, and startups took part in Asreh Omid Event.
