Iranian Researchers Locally Produce Oxygen Sensors for Auto Industry
Often referred to as an oxygen sensor, the lambda sensor is a small probe that’s designed to measure the amount of oxygen in the exhaust. If the sensor reads unexpected oxygen values, it will send signals to the engine management system to automatically adjust the air-to-fuel mixture.
The product was locally designed for the first time in Iran by the researchers at the Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology (IROST) and has received the necessary standards, including the Euro 4 emission test.
The Iranian-made oxygen sensor manufactured in the IROST-affiliated technology unit is a knowledge-based product of its first type, in which the precise technology of assembling and sealing the sensor, the computational know-how of the passing flow in various models of the exhaust manifold, the technology of manufacturing ceramic pressure sensors in different variants, the method of signal-based condition monitoring based on wavelets for fault detection and failure prediction, a combined fluid dynamic and thermodynamic models were used to develop sensors for all types of vehicles.
After five years of research and constant work on the vehicle oxygen sensor, the Iranian technological unit managed to completely produce all the ceramic and metal parts of the sensor.
According to a report by the IROST public relations department, the domestically produced oxygen sensor received the approvals of Iran Khodro and Saipa automaker. The product comes out in two different Siemens and Bosch models and two standards variants of Euro 4 and Euro 5. It is applicable for different makes of cars manufactured in the country.
The company has saved the country about $3 million per year by meeting domestic needs and has created jobs for 50 people directly and about 200 people indirectly According to the report, it has the capacity to increase its daily production from 1,000 to 2,500 next year.
The company is further working on designing and producing oxygen sensors for imported vehicles as well, a goal that is expected to be materialized next year.
According to the report, this Iranian technological unit has also obtained the international IATF standard for the production of electronic pieces.
