“We were able to produce a lead fabric from which the lightest radiology gown can be made,” said Javad Rashidikhah, the managing director of the knowledge-based company.

“One of the features of this fabric is that it can be washed, sewn and cut, and conforms to international standards,” he added.

Noting that 95% of the fabric consists of lead, Rashidikhah said, “This product has approval from the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), the Standards Department and a multinational company.”

He stated that the fabric has a low weight compared to German samples, and said, “The German sample of this product weighs 6.350 kg, but the weight of our product is one kilogram less than the foreign sample.”

Lead aprons (gowns) are used in medical facilities to protect workers and patients from unnecessary x-ray radiation exposure from diagnostic radiology procedures.

A lead (or lead equivalent) apron is a protective garment which is designed to shield the body from harmful radiation, usually in the context of medical imaging.
