Iranian Researchers Gain Technology for Production of 7 Grades of Magnesium Alloys
The researchers underlined that it is technologically highly difficult to turn magnesium into a final product like sheets and tubes.
“We have acquired the technical know-how to produce magnesium alloys that, based on the needs of our customers, include a wide range of alloys from the so-called stainless range to biodegradable alloys with uniform corrosion features,” said Behzad Nayebi, a researcher and founding member of the knowledge-based company and the managing director and a member of the board of directors of another knowledge-based company active in the field of materials.
He added that the company’s researchers have so far succeeded in producing seven grades of magnesium alloy with controllable corrosion properties, noting that the articles and patents registered about this research have attracted the attention of researchers and engineers of other countries.
Noting that the production of these alloys has been carried out by using controlled forming methods and casting and alloying different from usual methods, Nayebi said, “The production method of this knowledge-based product is a combination of casting and freezing, as well as strengthening and shaping methods.”
In a relevant development in August, scientists at an Iranian company had also produced magnesium fluoride powder based on nanotechnology with application in different industries.
‘Rayka Sanaat Afrand’ company has succeeded in making the magnesium fluoride (MgF2) powder with nanoscale particles and 97 percent purity which benefits from favorable optical properties and high surface-area-to-volume ratio.
The nanoscale particle size of the product and resultant surface-area-to-volume ratio have led to low refractive index (1.38), high light transmittance within the UV. IR, and visible light ranges.
The magnesium fluoride powder can be used for production of raw material for catalysts and coatings, anti-reflective lenses, mirrors, and coatings, optical lenses and traffic cameras.
