Green Technology Leads to Production of Nano-Based Fruit, Vegetable Disinfectant Solution in Iran
‘Polymer Pajouhan Amirkabir’ company has presented a formulation for fruit and vegetable disinfectants that has higher effectiveness than chemical solutions and at the same time is considered as a green technology due to the use of herbal plants.
"This formulation has both a disinfectant and a cleaning role. Mineral compounds, chitosan and nanoemulsion containing vegetable oils are used in it,” said Farhad Jamali, the managing director of the company.
He added that given the presence of thyme and cinnamon oils, it has antiseptic properties, and also due to its astringent properties, it cleans the surface of fruits and vegetables from chemicals.
“After washing with this solution, in contrast to washing with water, fruits and vegetables do not get spoiled quickly. Our experiments have shown that the cucumbers washed with this solution still retain their original freshness after two weeks in the refrigerator,” Jamali said.
“This solution has also been successfully tested on apples and cherries. Also, washing chicken flesh with this solution will quickly remove the bad smell during cooking,” he added.
In a relevant development earlier this year, an Iranian technological company had also produced a multi-purpose biocompatible disinfectant for use in the medical field and also for cleaning vegetables and other data-x-items at home.
Samira Gorji, one of the researchers of the Iranian technology company, considered the “surgical scrub” as one of the products of their company, and said, “This product is one of the strategic products in the health field, because the surgeon disinfects his/her hands with this product before surgery.”
She named the “ultrasound gel” as another product of their company, explaining, “This gel is produced at a high quality, so, when it is used, it will not damage the probe of the ultrasound (sonography) machine and will not cause corrosion in it.”
Gorji pointed to causing no sensitivity in the patient as one of the advantages of their products saying, “Moreover, this gel that creates radiation from the device to the site [in the body part] is of high quality.”
The researcher further said that their product can have as many as 11 applications and is also environmentally friendly. “This solvent is pitiable, meaning that 250 ml of the solvent can be mixed with100 times more water for washing vegetables,” she added.
