“Last year, the textile and clothing industry had the highest growth of Iran’s industry sector with a growth of 17.3%,” Gorji said.

“Nearly one million people work in Iran’s textile industry in 7,000 production units,” he added.

“Our total import in the textile industry is $1.8 billion, of which $700 million are allocated to the clothing sector,” Gorji noted.

Iranian experts have in the past few years manufactured different machinery for the textile industry.

An Islamic Azad University professor designed and manufactured a fabric production machine in November to produce Chadorshab fabric, which is locally produced in the Northern Iranian Province of Gilan.

“A team of researchers in Langroud City has already been working on the design and construction of a home tea factory and now in cooperation with this team, we are designing and industrially manufacturing home textile production machines to produce locally produced fabric ‘Chadorshab Gilani’ in the Northern province of Gilan,” Amin Atfi, a professor of the Islamic Azad University, Langroud Branch, told ANA.

Atfi said that every region in Iran has its own fabric production industry and in Gilan province Chadorshab is made with different kinds of raw materials.

He added that locally producing the textile in Gialn was dying out because the industry takes a lot of manpower, space and cost.
