Iranian Automakers Manufacture 537,000 Vehicles in 1st Five Months of Current Year
Abdollah Tavakoli Lahijani, the Director General of Automotive Industries Department at Iran’s Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade said that almost 537,000 cars were produced from March 21, 2023 to August 21.
“In that period, 62,000 tracks were produced in the country, showing a 52% growth compared to the same period last year. Moreover, during that first five months of this year, about 1,370 vans were produced, which shows a 70% growth compared to last year.
The industry ministry official further said that as many as 16,600 different variants of heavy vehicles (trucks, vans, and trailers) were produced in that period, indicating an increase of 69%.
Furthermore, in the first five months of this year, more than 112,000 vehicles were produced in the private sector, representing an increase of about 78% compared to the production of 63,000 cars in the same period last year.
“During that period, the share of the private sector in the total car production in the country was 21%,” Lahijani added.
"The annual car production exceeded one million vehicles last year and in the 13th government, and the increasing trend of car production will continue this year as well,” he added.
He further expressed hope with the increasing trend of electrification of cars and replacing petrol cars with the electric vehicles, there will be a shift in the auto industry in the country.
