“We are cooperating with the knowledge-based companies in 21 oilfields,” Zeydifar said, adding that the 80 percent dependency on foreign parts and equipment in Iran’s oil industry in the past has now reached to 20-30 percent.

He added that the oil ministry has signed nearly $340 million worth of contracts with competent knowledge-based companies to materialize its objectives in manufacturing parts in the relevant field.

Zeydifar stated that the oil ministry has also inked 81 contracts with different academic centers and research centers.

He also referred to the exports of home-made oil industry parts and equipment, and said 2.7 million oil industry parts and equipment developed by the knowledge-based companies have been sent to Venezuela.

The ministry has also exported catalyst to Venezuela, Zeydifar said, adding that a work group has been set up at the oil ministry for the exports of technical and engineering services.

Iranian knowledge-based firms have produced different parts and equipment for the country’s oil industry in the past few years.

In a relevant development earlier this year, researchers at an Iranian knowledge-based company succeeded in producing 32 gate valves needed in oil industry.

“We are a manufacturer of all kinds of valves needed by the oil, gas and petrochemical industries. The latest achievement of our company has been production of as many as 32 units of 20-inch gate valves of class 2,500 which have been used in development plan of Isfahan Oil Refinery. The achievement is considered as one of the largest valve-production projects of the oil companies in Iran,” Massoud Jalali, a representative of the knowledge-based company, told ANA.

Noting that valves are produced by using the open mold forging method due to the type of their structure, he said, “Open mold forging is a hot forming process in which metal is formed by hammering and pressing between flat or simple molds.”

“Gate valves are installed at the outlet of the distillery tower and are used to cut off and connect the flow. Also, the operation of these devices takes place at a temperature of 400 degrees (Fahrenheit) and 250 (Bar) of pressure; therefore, we should use heat-resistant materials in its construction,” Jalali said.

He explained that stainless steel materials should be used in metallurgy, saying, “This material is one of the most basic elements of gate valves and makes the valves resistant to heat.”
