Iran Reports 16% Increase in Gas Exports to Iraq, Turkey

TEHRAN (ANA)- Managing director of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) said that the country's gas exports to the two neighboring countries of Iraq and Turkey increased by 16 percent during last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2023).

Majid Chegeni, The managing director of the NIGC said in a press conference that amount of gas exports to Iraq and Turkey during last Iranian year increased by 16%, adding that the LPG production also witnessed an increase after the completion of gas transmission infrastructure in South Pars.

Chegeni added that the exports volume of liquefied gas (LPG) also increased by more than 22% (over one million tons).

He stated that the consumption share of the household sector was 27 billion cubic meters, 63%, the public sector was 9 billion cubic meters, 4%, transportation was 9 billion cubic meters, 4%, and the consumption of the agricultural sector was 4.8 billion cubic meters, or 2% of the overall consumption in the country last year.

Chegeni stated that talks have been held with Oman, Russia and Pakistan in the field of gas trade.

“Meanwhile, European countries have called for receiving Iranian gas,” he added.

According to him, the Russians have also proposed to form an energy hub between Iran and Russia, and agreements have been made in that regard.

He further said that the total gas consumption, except for the domestic consumption of industry and exports, was recorded at 230 billion cubic meters, adding, “Currently, the number of 1,253 cities and 39,699 villages have joined the gas pipeline network.”

He added that as many as 5,297 more villages of the country have joined the gas network over the past two years.

Chegeni added that about 98.6% of the urban population and 86.3% of the rural population have access to gas pipeline network.
