Iranian Researchers Working on Finding Cures for 2 Types of Cancer Using AI

TEHRAN (ANA)- Researchers in Iran have signed a contract with a government institution to finance their project to find treatment for lung and breast cancers using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Mustafa Qanei, the secretary of the Health Knowledge-Based Economy Development Taskforce said, “With the contract signed with Iran Health Insurance Organization (IHIO), it was supposed the IHIO will invest in two areas of treatment: breast cancer as the most common cancer and lung cancer as the most fatal cancer.”

“In this cooperation, artificial intelligence is supposed to help doctors and reduce costs in the field of diagnosing these two cancers,” he said.

“Technology can help reduce healthcare costs,” Qanei said.

secretary of the Health Knowledge-Based Economy Development Taskforce went on to say that producing three different vaccines are on the agenda of the Iranian researchers, adding that currently, the pneumococcal vaccine for children is in its final phases.

The health official noted that the domestically developed vaccine for preventing diarrhea in children is also in its final phase.

“The third vaccine is the quadrivalent HPV vaccine, which is a more reasonably priced compared to the foreign counterparts. Currently, imported 2-valent HPV vaccine is available in the market, and the Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology with the help of scientists is planning to produce a 4-valent vaccine, which can compete with the foreign counterparts,” Qanei said.

He went on to point out that that Iranian-made insulin will come to the market next year.
