Iranian Nanotechnology Company Indigenizes Strategic Product to Settle Power Outage Problem
“One of our products is silicone coating for high voltage insulators. Insulator is a kind of electrical insulation used in electrical substations, transmission lines, and sometimes in electrical panels. Insulators are not conductors of electric current, but when their surface is exposed to pollution, including dust, they become conductors of electric current and increase the possibility of fire and failure in the system, and therefore, a large part of power outage in the world is caused by the insulators,” said Nima Haqshenas, the managing director of the nanotechnology company.
“The silicone coating is one of the sanctioned products and now various products similar to it are used in domestic industries,” he added.
Haqshenas stated that the coating produced by his nanotechnology company is based on silicon and reinforced with nanoparticles, saying, “This coating has a life duration of 10 to 15 years on insulators and can be re-coated.”
He added that the Research and Development (R&D) work on the nano coatings took nearly six years, noting that measures to ink a contract for industrial production of the product are underway.
Iran’s nanotechnology has obtained a fourth place in the world, led by knowledge-based companies and the Nanotechnology Innovation Council which is an entity under the supervision of the presidential office.
Currently, nanotech products are developed in 15 industrial fields based on domestic capabilities and have made their way to the international markets.
During the past Iranian calendar year (March 2021-March 2022), Iran gained 115 billion rials (about $370,000) from nano-products sales.
Among nano-products developed in Iran, 42 percent are related to construction, 17 percent to petroleum and related products, 13 percent to automaking, and 10 percent to optoelectronics.
Saeed Sarkar, an official with the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology, said 725 kinds of nanotechnology products are being manufactured in the country and sent to the global markets.
The official went on to say that China, India, Indonesia, Syria, Turkey, and Iraq import Iranian nanotechnology products and equipment.
