Iran-Made Antibacterial Geomembrane Used to Cover Sensitive Surfaces in Oil, Gas Industry
‘Decamond’ company produced the geomembrane which is a kind of waterproof material with a basic polymer of high molecular weight and trivial permeability to moisture.
It is often used as plastic sheets to cover the sensitive surfaces of gas/water reservoirs to prevent their leakage.
The product is modified by antibacterial nanoparticles through which a strong antibacterial property is developed to protect water reservoirs from bacteria proliferation.
The incorporation of metallic nanoparticles into the polymer-based geomembranes has resulted in emergence of antibacterial property to suppress the bacterial proliferation and stronger antibacterial property with decreased nanoparticle size.
The product can be used for lining of water supply canals, pipes and tanks, coating on garbage in landfills, protection of concrete structures exposed to corrosive chemicals, lining of concrete pipe walls in the sewerage network and controlling inflatable soils.
A geomembrane is a very low permeability synthetic membrane liner or barrier commonly used to control fluid (or gas) migration in a human-made project, structure, or system.
Earlier this year, the Iran-made antibacterial nanogeomembranes were presented to the market to enable the easy storage of agricultural water in the rainy season and its use in the low rainfall seasons in drip and traditional irrigation systems.
The product was manufactured by a knowledge-based Iranian company, supported by the Iranian Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, by using silver nanoparticles.
