Portable Door, Window Holding Joint Built in Iran with Gas Leakage Detection Mechanism

TEHRAN (ANA)- An Iranian Ph.D. student of Islamic Azad University succeeded in patenting an invention called ‘portable door and window holding joint with an accident detection mechanism’ which prevents natural gas leaks and alerts the family before death.

“The foreign models of the joint merely alert the users of gas leakage and they do not provide any solution but our Iran-made product offers a solution; it alerts the residents of a building when it finds out that gas poisoning has happened and if they are poisoned and not conscious, it automatically shuts off the power and opens the windows,” Sarveh Gorjipour, a Ph.D. student of Artificial Intelligence at Islamic Azad University’s Sanandaj branch, told ANA.

“It is a small and portable device and prevents natural gas leakage, alerts the family, sends the subscription code to the relief department of the gas company and prevents death of people because it opens the door with its joint and engine,” she said.

“At present, we have made the prototype model and we should receive the necessary licenses from several institutions and organizations, including the Institute of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran,” Gorjipour added.

If a gas leak occurs at night while people are sleeping, there is a possibility that carbon monoxide (CO) would cause them to die in sleep. Even a slow gas leak can quickly fill up a room with carbon monoxide and kill anyone inside.

Inhaling a high concentration of natural gas can lead to asphyxia, the symptoms of which include fatigue and chest pain.

CO poses a particular danger because without a working carbon monoxide detector in the vicinity, there are no obvious signs it may be building up around you. It is invisible, and can prevent the blood of its ability to absorb oxygen.
