“A Ph.D. thesis and two research projects are being carried out by a faculty member of Islamic Azad University’s Qa’enat branch. The project to produce biological mycorrhizal fungi has also been completed in cooperation with a faculty members and the laboratory facilities of the Qa’enat branch,” Mokhtari told ANA.
“We are carrying out research on the production of specialized fertilizer for saffron and barberry as well as barberry booster,” he added.
“At present, most rivals in the private sector do not have the scientific capacity and laboratory, hardware and software possibilities of Islamic Azad University, and we are very hopeful to be able, with a little attention and support, to introduce scientifically the production of saffron and barberry and their products for the first time to the Iranians and the world nations,” Mokhtari said.
Iran ranks first globally in saffron production, followed by India and Afghanistan.
Saffron is called red gold, and is the most expensive spice in the world, due to the nature of its harvest and production process.
