Iran, Syria’s Seismological Centers Ink MoU to Expand Cooperation

TEHRAN (ANA)- A comprehensive cooperation document in various fields of research and technology of seismology and earthquake engineering was signed between Iran’s International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES) and the Syrian National Seismological Center.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) to expand cooperation between Iran’s International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES) and the Syrian National Seismological Center was signed during the visit of a high-ranking delegation from Iran headed by the President Ebrahim Raeisi to Damascus and holding meetings with high-ranking officials of the Arab country.

During the visit, the scientific and technical capabilities of the IIEES were approved by the Syrian side that offered to sign the MoU.

The comprehensive MoU was inked on cooperation in various fields of research and technology of seismology and earthquake engineering.

Gholam Javan Davalouyee, the head of the IIEES National Broadband Seismometer Network who represented the Iranian seismological delegation, said, “This MoU includes development of equipment and training technical personnel and exchange of experiences of experts in the field of seismology." 

Davalouyee added that the plan will contribute to the progress of the National Seismological Center of Syria.

“The design and construction of an advanced geotechnical laboratory in Syria is one of the provisions of the MoU,” he added.
