Iranian Company Produces Animal Feed Using Palm Tree Residues
"Indigenous feed means that for the production of food for animals, we seek to identify the raw materials in each region and rely on that feed to avoid importing it from outside the region, Mehrdad Al-e Ahmad, the managing director of the company said.
“We focused on the processing of palm tree residues and other materials used in animal feed available in the southeast coasts of the country,” he added.
“In the prototypes of this product, we succeeded in producing animal feed with 75-80 percent of the raw materials coming from Hormozgan province,” he explained.
“In this product, we not only used palm residues to produce feed, but we also used it to produce hydroponic culture medium for cultivating edible mushrooms.”
There is no tree like the palm tree whose leaves can be used directly for weaving mats because the leaves of the palm tree are highly flexible, he stressed.
“In addition, the leaves of this tree are abundant in the region and can create high employment opportunities.”
From the Southern part of Kerman province to Hormozgan, there are about 400,000 tons of palm tree residues in a space of 150 km radius, he said, adding that if all these residues are processed, the entire animal feed needed in the region can be supplied.
“Meanwhile, the surplus processed dates are not usable for humans. So, we floured the dates along with their kernels. This feed improves the absorbability in animal feed,” he concluded.
