“Repairing the educational CNC machines with computer control systems of the old generations are usually not feasible but cost-effective due to their old parts and boards, therefore, it has been a while since companies producing this equipment do not provide services required for repairs and updating the machines,” Mohsen Lowh Moussavi, a faculty member of the Manufacturing and Production Department of Islamic Azad University’s Khomeinishahr branch, told ANA.

“The mechatronics student team of the Islamic Azad University’s Khomeinishahr branch, including young and creative students of technical and engineering fields, with the help of experienced graduates of the university managed to update the system and were able to complete the project in a shorter time than expected,” he added.

Lowh Moussavi noted that replacing the old generation controllers with high-speed processors allows the users of these new devices to execute commands faster than the old models, adding that using the latest versions of the CAM/CAD software is also possible.

In a relevant development earlier this year, a technological company in Iran succeeded in manufacturing a special desktop CNC machine for cutting foam sheets with less crumbs and chips.

"CNC foam cutting machine is a device that uses a hot wire element to cut various types of foam to produce many products and is used in decorative works, making urban beauty elements and facades,” Seyed Mehdi Amirkiayee, a faculty member of the architecture department of Islamic Azad University’s Bandar Anzali branch and the manager of the company, told ANA.

He explained that due to the lightness of the foam, its large dimensions and the drastic reduction in costs, it is used instead of wood, steel and other materials.

“The low-risk machining process and the possibility to make complex elements are other advantages of foam products,” Amirkiayee said.

A CNC machine is the automated control of machining tools (such as drills, lathes, mills, grinders, routers and 3D printers) by means of a computer.

A CNC machine processes a piece of material (metal, plastic, wood, ceramic, or composite) to meet specifications by following coded programmed instructions and without a manual operator directly controlling the machining operation.
