High-Quality Poultry Feed Produced in Iran from Waste of Edible Mushroom Farms
“Using the waste of garden and agricultural products, including the waste of edible button mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) is a useful solution to compensate for the lack of fodder and in the meantime reduce environmental pollution as the chemical composition of this waste includes dry material, raw protein and insoluble fibers in the detergent,” Nader Javadi, a graduate of microbiology from Islamic Azad University, told ANA.
He added that the physical specifications, chemical composition and proper nutritional value of free or cheap edible button mushroom waste showed that the waste of garden and agricultural products can be used in ruminant and poultry diets as a substitute for wheat and barley or as a part of their diet.
Javadi noted that in this research (skill-oriented thesis), the waste of a mushroom hall was chosen as a statistical population, adding, “A part of the edible mushroom’s waste was collected after separating the pieces. Then we used the bacteria acetobacter sp. After that by using the local bacteria it was turned into vinegar and waste in the fermentation process.”
He said that the results indicated that the edible mushroom waste can be a good substitution to wheat, barley, etc. for poultry feed, adding that using the product also increases the weight of chickens as much as five percent.
It is worth to say that feeding livestock and poultry can be considered as one of the best ways to use food industry wastes in a proper way. Applying appropriate management methods for the optimal use of agricultural waste in raising livestock and poultry will certainly increase productivity and reduce damage to agricultural and conversion industries and the use of new resources in animal and poultry feed.
