Iranian Knowledge-Based Company Develop Underground Water Desalination Systems
Reducing dependence on imported water sources that supply water in Sistan and Baluchistan province, optimal use of investments and experiences in the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology in order to reduce costs and accelerate access to safe drinking water and the development of technology related to exploration, drilling and exploitation studies of underground water resources is one of the goals of the cooperation agreement which was inked between Vice Presidency for Science and Technology, and Ministery of Energy.
The vice-presidency has put measures on its agenda to benefit from the capabilities and potentials of knowledge-based companies and domestic investors for studies, exploration, drilling and extraction of drinking water from underground water resources in Sistan and Baluchistan Province, and the Ministry of Energy has been committed to transferring and distributing the produced water from existing studied wells as well as other projects in the future.
According to the public relations department of the vice presidency, three deep wells in the Sistan region have reached the exploitation phase that has facilitated the supply of drinking water for the people of that dry Southeastern region. After the qualitative analysis of extracted water, the optimal technology for purifying each of these sources was determined and with the participation of knowledge-based companies, desalination units were designed and built.
Among these systems, the reverse electrodialysis desalination machine at Sistan well No. 3 and the RO desalination machine with ceramic filter at the site of Sistan well No. 2 with the support of the Water, Drought, Erosion and Environment Technologies Development Headquarters of the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology have begun operating in the trial phase.
